Site Reliability Engineer

The Site Reliability Engineer supports the complete software development lifecycle including several production environments and remote call center operation. This role works collaboratively with software engineering to deploy and operate our systems.

 

WHAT YOU WILL BE LIVING AND BREATHING EVERY SINGLE DAY:

  • Effectively execute projects to completion, managing and deliverable acceptance for projects and related release initiatives
  • Support the complete Software Development Lifecycle including different development, testing, UAT and production environments
  • Support the operation of the application in several environments, in remote data centers, as well as a remote call center operation
  • Monitor and report to leadership on the status of the systems
  • Plan and execute predictive and preventive actions to prevent system failures
  • Maintain and monitor performance, space utilization, uptime and availability of all database systems
  • Perform system backups to ensure system data is maintained and stored
  • Ensure correct software management – propose and implement system improvements; plan, test, implement operating system upgrades; install OS, maintenance releases, critical fixes and service packs; assist with application upgrades and installations
  • Define, create and deliver documentation – hardware/software configurations, change control, downtime/availability, problem/resolution, procedures, resource usage, etc.
  • Purposefully manage risk and issues; and mitigation efforts as appropriate
  • Use creative problem solving and critical thinking approaches to actively solve a broad range of problems across technologies
  • Compile historical data from previous Iterations/Releases and provide it for team-wide use and future estimating activities. Act as a role model for professionalism, critical thinking and setting productivity pace as well as promoting a financial focus with emphasis on business value metrics
  • Encourage de-centralized decision-making within teams while knowledge share with counterparts and junior staff
  • Develop infrastructure as code recipes and documentation

 

WHAT EXPERIENCE MAKES YOU STAND OUT:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience, 3+ years in equivalent role
  • License or Certification: AWS, Agile, Systems Architect Associate, Systems Operator Associate, Cisco
  • Experience in IT performing similar functions
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving ability
  • System administration experience in Linux/Unix and Windows OS systems, Apache web server
  • Task automation scripting using Python, Perl, Shell, or other UNIX based languages
  • Systems backup and recovery plan management
  • Web application administration (IIS, http, xml, apache, tomcat)
  • Technical Skills, AWS, MySQL or other database servers
